I have just bought some oak kitchen doors and I need to cut out the 35mm hinge holes. I have bought a SFZ hinge cutter 11596. Is it better to use the cutter in a drill stand or in my half inch router?
Sorry I don't seem to be able to add the link to the SFX page

I have done loads free hand. Punch a dink to catch the cutter point on centre. Once started the cutting efficiency can be increased by tilting a very small degree and then pulling up straight, The cutter depth is about equal to the countersink required for the hinges so stop when it is flush with teh surface. With a drill stand you lose the 'feel' and bite. In hard woods the cutter can polish the cutting surface and skid which is why the slight tilt helps
Try a drill stand and do a free hand cuts on scrap and see what suits.
