I'll get one thanks mate.

How's this for Aldi service?

I bought a wee circular saw from them last month. The thing had an intermittent fault with it so I called their customer service in Germany on the Friday evening. On Monday afternoon a brand new one arrived by post from Germany!!!

The drill is worth a punt for any keen DIYer. 45 quid for 24v 1.5AH drill with 3year warrantee!!
A bit of a pity there's no spare battery on offer, but hey ho you can pay 40 quid plus for a clone Makita battery alone!!

I've just been into my local Aldi - seen these in piles.
Came back home and saw your welcome advice, Dickie.... :-)
Looked for an equivalent Makita On-line and was confused by prices from ~ £150 - 350 ? ?
What would be a reasonable price for a new Makita equivalent or nearest, please?
Many thanks

Personally I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole!

I know it's only cheap but it looks totally impractical as a drill driver. Far to clumsy and heavy and I would bet money to charity that it couldn't manage three 7 mm holes in hard brick on one charge with the drillbits supplied.

I know it's cheap but £45 wasted IMO :boxing:

I would be inclined to agree. I have an old Clarke 24v which I inherited from my Dad. It has a little bit more oomph for concrete than my 18v, but it's massive, heavy, unwieldy, and the charge has never lasted more than 2 or 3 holes in anything really solid. And the battery takes ages to charge. Ok for DIY, but not convinced for trades.

Certainly you'll get a good Trade product with Makita, that'll last for years. Most guys on site, like me, use 18v Li-ion stuff.

Ah yes, like you Razor if I turned up on site with something from Aldi I'd be a laughing stock.

Perhaps that's why there were piles of them in my local Aldi, rather than a queue of ppl waiting for the next delivery of them.

i have a workzone biscuit jointer. its not that good. alreet for diy i guess. only got it to see what itd be like. one day ill get a propper one.

i knew a lad from work once that had a cheap challenge cordless. he went to put a bit in it. did the usual hold the chuck and pull the trigger. the chuck jammed up. that caused the drill to snap in half and it broke his wrist. lol

having said that that drill is probably fine for a diy type.

I have to agree with Razor. I had this drills very similar looking predecessor and concur with everything he says above. After reasonable DIY use the chuck bearing went so it ended up drilling oversized holes, the hammer hardly worked and the battery only lasted about 3 holes and took ages to charge.
When it gave up(not sure if it was under warranty, but I didn't want a replacement!) I gave it to charity, then went and bought one of those Dewalt combi drill drivers from B&Q. Ten times better for twice the money!
Two years later, one bathroom install plus countless other DIY jobs and it's still going strong and I use it a lot more than I ever did the Aldi one.
Having said that for the occasional hole it's probably fine.

That said, I have an Aldi hot air gun that has been excellent. And considering how cheap the recent router bits were I am very pleased with those. And the work trousers weren't bad either.............
