Plastering over hardboard

Hi all, I've chopped back some plaster and found some hardboard underneath ( between the blue arrows in the picture ). I intend to apply a coat of hardwall to the rest of the wall I have chopped away then rule it off to get it level.
Is there anything I can do to the hardboard so it can be plastered over ( hardwall then multi ).
My other option is to remove the board and replace with plasterboard.
Just 1 more question - what is the
minimum thickness hardwall can be applied ?
Cheers.

Either remove the hardboard or Blue Grit.
How thin do you want to go with the hardwall, ? your not thinking of skimming with it.

Is it hollow behind the hardboard?
If it is, it probably means that there's a bit of framework above the door, pull off the h/b and replace with p/b.

no not skimming with it, when I put a straight edge along the wall part of the block work is touching which means it will have next to no backing plaster at all on that bit.
And there is a frame behind the hb so im going to replace with plasterboard.
