Does anyone find the incessant previews on the BBC annoying? Most people can get up-to-date details of programmes on their television menu. I think these very expensive pieces of advertising are a waste of money and an intrusion. Surely better use could be made of the money. At the end of many programmes Aunty has the cheek to suggest we obtain more details on-line.
Why hive off responsibility. What's wrong with Ceefax. Or better still make reports inclusive in time taken up by pre- programme water torture?

I feel your pain, I find most breaks between programmes (and adverts during programmes ) incredibly annoying: even more annoying to me though is the relentless incidental music, I don't actually watch much TV, if I did I'd have put my boot through it by now.

I sometimes have to leave the room when the wife is watching something like Countryfile - a programme whose content interests me and I'd probably watch if it weren't for the totally unnecessary background music, this switches on and off every few seconds and the tune will change every couple of minutes, it just drives me me mad.

I often watch with subtitles on and the sound off if it's something I really want to see: btw, subtitles on news programmes (or any other programme where they're done on the fly) are often more entertaining than the entertainment

Sky + and Sky Demand are a wonderful thing to have. We hardly watch anything live now unless it is BBC. Recording programmes on Sky + allows us to spin through adverts and downloading on Sky demand often has the adverts taken out. This way we only watch what we want and looking at the schedules it is just as well we are able to.

By the way, we just caught up with BBC's Line of Duty last night, what a great series. Get it on I Player now.

i have 3 freeveiw boxes one in the shed and 2 in the house
one in the house is recording my daily choices
the other 2 are on series record for old series i like hearbeat the royal 'judge judy' great railway journeys etc etc
i always tend to watch bbc and record other channels and wizz through the adverts

another point to note if you record or watch iplayer or other on line free players late at night [11pm-6am] you will get a fraction off the adverts you get during the day
this is because the tv companies have a maximum % adverts allowed per hour averaged throught the day this is why the play 24hrs not for our benefit but because they can offset the telly throught the night to double or tripple the adverts in the daytime

I can't be bothered with the hassle (or cost) of Sky (or any other pay to view TV), or recording stuff.

I've got stuff on videos which was probably recorded up to 20 years ago, I've never watched it.

Terrestrial and a Freeview box offers enough rubbish without paying for any more.

Selected sports, the News, some wildlife programmes (usually with the sound off), QI and HIGNFY are about the extent of my viewing.

We didn't have telly at home until I was 14, I think I've just never got into the habit of watching it, or of it being an important part of my life.

I don't watch a lot at all,but what I find unbearable to the point of having to mute quicktime is the melodramatic ,grandious, pompous spiel the b.b.c. employ with sport.Rugby is a strong culprit but at the minute the start of the olympic highlights .."I am a mountain,"or something equally mindblowingly ridiculous !

Thanks for the replies. It's nice to know I am not alone. I agree about the background music. The BBC turns out some good stuff. Pity they don't listen to the viewers.

Its not just the TV, I tend to listen to BBC Radio to get away from the incessant commercial ads on independent radio, now I'm inundated with constant, repetitious BBC ads for their radio programs. Only seems to have started up about 6 months ago but its so annoying I've resurrected a load of old tapes for the car.

its all to do with the new pay for programs format

the more people pay for bbc programs from any source the more income they get or thats the way i see it
