Thinning down acrylic?

Hey all, I make guitar picks from acrylic and would like to be able to thin it down somehow to be able to offer different gauges.
I tried it on the band facer but it was difficult to hold something so small up to it and it flew off never to be seen again!
Any ideas?

Use hot glue or double sided tape to hold the piece of acrylic to a larger handle when thinning. Alternatively buy thinner acrylic stock ;)

That is a good idea. However, I won't have long term access to a band facer so I'm looking for alternatives and I can't find thinner acrylic.

Make up a lapping plate using wet and dry abrasive paper stuck to a large sheet of thick float glass.

How much material are we talking about removing here?

I don't know what a lapping plate is haha.
I'm usually trying to thin down 3mm Acrylic by 1-2mm.
