email client (my opinion)

A while ago I installed opera mail on The other computer. Never really liked it, but it does pop email and is free and works, just found another one Dream mail you can get it from HERE

I find that it works much better and there is even an option to make it look like outlook express.

Any even better email clients out there and your opinions please

Thunderbird is the one I use. Can use pop and smtp. Very easy to set up and use.

thunderbird is the one I use too. For business use hands down outlook is the best.

Always used outlook myself does everything I need and more. Currently has about 20 email addresses

Thunderbird might just be the best option.

Linux users have Evolution which is quite good, but I think they stopped doing developing the Windows version.

The only other one I can think of right now is SeaMonkey.

Does anybody (outside of businesses) need an email client any longer? I thought the in browser clients from all the major email providers, as well as ISPs, negate the need for a standalone client?

Icm76, really appreciated that list.

Tried all the ones I have not tried before, none were of use

(I am not saying it was your fault)

I had problems trying to configure one, another (I found) kept "not responding" another was cloud based and didn't want to work, another can only have 2 addresses (I have more) The best looking one is only a free trial (I read the small print so never bothered with it)

But you have pointed me in the right direction

What is it you're looking for? I thought all email clients should handle POP, and I thought they can all handle multiple accounts for one user?

I admit though I get a bit fed up configuring email clients. Despite having numerous email addresses (in an attempt to keep a lid on the spam) I access them all through webmail, I just save each of the account credentials in my browser. Obviously it means logging in and out a lot, but I'm pretty fast now to go through them all, most really only need checking once a week.

I want an email client that:
1) Actually works
2) Can have multiple accounts (I too thought they all can, but no)
3) Not cloud based
4) Has a spell checker or option for a spell checker (The one I am using just now doesn't, but its layout is nice)
5) Won't share my info with 3rd parties (One said it does)
6) can use pop3 (No, not all can)
7) Easy to use.

I am not fussed how hard it is to set up, since once its done, its done, but to ask umpteen dozen questions, no. I have no problem saying my password is this, my logon name is that, and its pop3 and my ports are this and that, but to ask for my inside leg...........no.

I use Mozilla Thunderbird and am generally happy with it. It's fully featured with multiple accounts, spam filtering etc, but can be a bit of a pain to setup properly to begin with though.

I agree with azbartog,,,, Thunderbird is a great email client.. Half the battle with any client is getting the initial settings right,,, but all email providers should tell you the settings to use, whether it's pop or imap. Once it's set up, it's just really click and receive/reply/compose/send.

Why was Thunderbird (or Seamonkey) no good? There are quite a lot of add ons and customizations (typical Mozilla) that may potentially tune these to your liking. British English dictionary for spell check is definitely a possibility. Lightning is the calendar add on for Thunderbird iirc there are a couple of nice features but it's a bit pissy about which version is installed (a specific release of the add on only works with a narrow range of releases of Thunderbird)

Try an old version of Evolution on Windows? or switch to Linux (you could use a 'Live' version running from DVD or USB stick) and try an up to date version of Evolution? A decent calendar is integrated and I think the spell checking capability is pretty good as the packages are used widely within open source projects.

Try Mailbird or some other payware and if it's to your liking then suck it up and pay for the full version?

I thought that POP3 was the default option for so long everything would have to support it, I must be getting old
