SDHC cards...

Bought a new SDHC card for the in car camera, seems to record Ok ...... but when I put the card in the 'Puter it won't always load all the files (Some sorta message about some files can't be imported} and then another that says that the card is faulty and do you want to fix it...

Click on yes obviously...

Soooo..swap cards with a known working device...working device doesn't work with the SDHC card (No surprise there then )

The card was bought in a major supermarket..and had a security tag attached ... which was removed with a magnet built into the worktop..

Could the magnet have been responsible for the fault ??

It's a Sandisk card and the logos say it's waterproof and shockproof..doesn't mention magnet proof..

http://www.sandisk.com/about-sandisk/proof

EDIT...to say the reason I'm asking is that I'm taking it back. If I get a replacement it'll be going through the magnet again...

Whereas I could get a refund, and a refund isn't going anywhere near a magnet.. :thumbleft:

Have you formatted the card before you use it?

No. put it in the new camera and it didn't say it needed formatting ??

it may not do, but to be sure, why not format it.

OK. put the card in the 'puter...right clicked on the Icon then "Format" and reset defaults....now works in the Known working camera..

Which would seem to suggest that the problem is with the new In-car-camera???

Might find out later...as The Mrs has driven to work with the new camera and an older (Known working) SD card..

Bloody 'ell........IQ of 155 (According to Mensa) and I can't do this technology.. :wtf: :? :? :?

possibly the issue is with the reader?

SDHC isn't implemented in quite the perfectly uniform way that you would expect from a standard - cards not playing nicely with a specific camera or reader is something that happens occasionally. Which card and reader specifically do you have? maybe googling those specifically can shed some light?

...Whereas I could get a refund
although the supermarket option is slightly more convenient and buyable same day, I'd probably just go for a refund - supermarket prices for SD cards (and USB cards) make me weep.

16GB Sandisk Extreme Pro 95MB/s for £26 via an authorized seller on eBay or Amazon, or ancient and extremely slow Sandisk 16GB in the supermarket for £40? No contest...

PicStop and MyMemory are decent options if you don't want to do eBay or Amazon Marketplace.

Thanks... http://www.mymemory.co.uk/SDHC/SanDisk/ ... 0---30MB_s

Is the exact card I got..though 9 pence cheaper at the soupermarket..

:dunno: what you mean by the reader though...Win 7 'puter if that helps??

Now that's good to know, do you mind saying which supermarket? I went hunting round my local Asda, Sainsbury and Tesco not so long ago and all I could find was the really basic class 2 - class 4 cards at unbelievably terrible prices.

i.e. where do you put the SDHC card to read it? some are portable USB gadgets, others are a card reader fitted in one of the 3.5" or 5.25" hard disk bays, a few cases and laptops have a slot built in to the machine.

What I had in mind was to check for any Windows driver or firmware updates for the reader.

I'm thinking not and I did a little digging to be sure:

Sandisk: http://www.sandisk.com/about-sandisk/proof/ mentions 5000 Gauss and http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detai ... gnetic-and

Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gauss_%28unit%29
  1. 100 gauss – a small iron magnet
  2. 2000 gauss – a small neodymium-iron-boron (NIB) magnet
  3. 600-70,000 gauss – a medical magnetic resonance imaging machine
about MRI: http://www.howstuffworks.com/question698.htm (says 5000 to 30000 Gauss)

some random page I found about SDHC cards: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/can-magnet ... r-sd-card/

So reformatted the card, same problem with todays recording..

I'm going to swap the cards back over and see if I get the same problem...

If not I'll assume a card problem.

If I do....then it must be a camera problem

The old card that was working OK, is that as SDHC card as well? or an older, not High Capacity SD card, I think it would be 2GB or less if so.

If you've got a working standard capacity SD (SDSC) card it might suggest that there is an SDHC compatibility issue with one of the devices.

Spot on, it's an SD card @ 2GB..

But according to the info for the camera it supports up to 32GB SDHC card??
