I am considering drop box, or any similar programme.

Is it easy to set up / use ?

Would you suggest something else, if so what and why?

I have nothing major to store, its just on the odd occasion it may be really good to have

Dropbox is brilliant. I use it all the time. I even use it as an additional backup for my website...It's a nice bit of cloud storage and really easy to transfer pictures from a mobile to your computer without even being near your computer...

Really easy to use and set up S-E...Googles there if you get stuck...

We have that for SWMBO's Samsung tablet. It was free but they say it will be charged for after a year. Is this normal, or is there a free version available somewhere?

It's alright, know lots of people who use it without issue.

Things that always concern me with cloud storage is if they are going to be around in the future. What is their business model. I'm instantly wary of anyone that offers completely free, unlimited storage.

They either pay for it by advertising, deep pockets or selling something........

Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive (formerly SkyDrive) are all nice ways of storing stuff.

OneDrive is my personal favorite. I love the web layout, and the apps for mobile are quite nice.

Ive had it ages and never been charged...

Like wassap...great piece of software...and well worth the 69p a year, I know loads of people who dropped it out after a year, too tight to pay, like everything else in the world, people always want something for nothing

Those services that are free usually close down too or get that annoying with adverts they become terrible. 69p is hardly the most expensive thing in our lives.....but I've got mates that refuse to pay it too!

Tight gits.

I use both Dropbox and Skydrive and have never been charged for either. With both mine and my wife's phones and laptops, plus the desktop PC and my work laptop all connecting to it they gave us loads of free storage. And as we're probably replacing at least one of those devices each year and connecting to the cloud storage accounts from the new one they keep extending the free period.

I'm wary of them suddenly closing down though, so I keep the same stuff duplicated on Dropbox, Skydrive, and on my home network drive.

I've used Dropbox for years. It's very good. However, it can suck the life out of your broadband connection because it is always syncing the files from your devices to the cloud. If you dump a lot of data in there you will see your computer come to a standstill. So, it's good but for relatively small amounts of data.

Seriously I would try Google Drive. I have been using Dropbox for years but in the last few months dropbox has been 'dropped'

I think Google drive is far better because
- You get 15GB free, dropbox 2GB
- 100GB on Google Drive is $2, $10 for dropbox
- Drive uploads a lot faster
- Drive syncs better than drop box especially if you have android
- realtime editing, i.e. say writing a doc or email on PC, walk away, you immediately see it on your phone
- Drive has browser apps,
