Have you considered the two soft bags, the LXT400 and LXT600? These can carry multiple power tools, chargers, batteries, hand tools, etc.

Alternatively Makita now do their own stackable boxes rather like the Tanos/Festool Systainer concept, although not compatible. The boxes are a recent introduction (in some countries like Germany Makita did sell Systainers for a while - the "classic" ones not the newer T-Loc system) and more recently Makita have introduced a range of inserts for these, although the ITS web site states that the one for your BTD146/DTD146 isn't yet available - probably because these cases are such a new product

An alternative is to make-up your own padded inserts using acoustic (vaulted) foam for the lid insert and "pick'n'pluck" foam for the rest. The inserts are plucked to provide the recesses for tools and the height of the foam can be built-up using extra foam and spray adhesive if really needed. If you do that you can pick your own case system - including the Tanos (Festool) Systainer, Sortimo (also used by Bosch) or deWalt systems. Take a look at eFoam or Any Foam to see what I mean

Hope that helps

These are my foam suppliers. I don't like using the pick and pluck stuff, and opted for a HLB packaging foam instead. It's not too hard to cut out with a sharp knife and steady hand.
