40x40 box section metal frame.Price please ready to order
Hi,
I want to get this gate frame built from 40mmx40mm box section. The measurements are 7ft tall and 8.30 foot(2.5 metres) wide. This will be a double gate.I also want a flat bar to be welded at top, bottom and middle frame,so I could use 19-20mm wood infills flush within the frame. All frame needs full hardware(hinges, dropolts etc).On top of the frame I will need some railheads to stop pigeons sitting.
Quite a few fabricators I have spoken to are not willing to take this on.Please could someone on this forum recommend anybody who will take on this with a reasonable price.I am based in Essex.I am happy to discuss this further and can leave my contact details here(if mods allow it).
If no one then I will not mind any hobbyists out here who weld for the fun of it.It is a simple frame, nothing fancy.I will be happy to source the parts if needed. Please provide me with the details, and I might be even able to travel to you if you are not far.
Hope I have not broken any rules here by asking such a question.
Thanks for your help..

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

Yes. I am not trying to get this done free. I am happy to pay reasonable costs for the time of welder. After all it is a dangerous and skillfull job and outside the scope of diy.I do understand that.
The reasons I have been given are either too busy for the job or it is too small. Well good luck to all of them. The reason I ask here is because I want the work done right and I am not willing to hire a machine just to save a few quid by doing it diy.
Thanks for your interest in this topic.

only people who spring to mind are Mechanical & Ferrous based in Erith about 15 mins from the Dartford bridge in kent
If its that much hassle, build them from timber a nice hardwood (redwood ??) will out last most people if treated very 5-10 years

Why a frame out of interest? Have I missed something? Our gates are quite large-ish with electric openers and they just have two steel posts.......Not moved a mm and they get used at LEAST 4 times a day and have been fine for the last 2 years....

Thanks billy goat. I would like to put some Oak wood in between the frames. I have quite a few left from a project. Hope that makes sense.
Is anyone here willing to take on this project.

Can't you use steel and them cut the oak cut into thin cuts and fix to the metal posts once the gates are installed? Then it looks nice and doesn't need the top brace.
The posts on ours are quite thick, but I used plenty of metal tapping screws to fix stuff to them......can get a pic if that helps?

Lets look at some figures.bouba wrote:.........Is anyone here willing to take on this project.
Out of the umpteen thousand forum members on here you have had (at this time) 120 views. Of that 120 several (including myself) will be following the thread.
From that i would say that maybe 20 different people are reading this, the chances of some one reading this and being good with a welder and wanting to do the job and live within a reasonable distance to you are very slim.
I can only wish you luck, or suggest you try google for steel fabricators near you, or how about a mobile welder?

Nice easy £400 job there. Try and find a smallish place, they tend to be more willing to take on smaller jobs.
If they are geared up just for heavy structural fabrications, making a gate isn't as easy as you'd imagine.

I think I've made this point before. For small engineering jobs, look for local engineering clubs or societies.
For something of this size, if you can't find a small firm to do it, consider inquiring at a local College. They may be willing to take it on as 'training' but would be close to the 'market' price.
If you were in 'my neck of the woods' then I would be suggesting a certain 'Heritage Railway'. For a 'donation' of 300-400 quid then it might get done PDQ.
Other Heritage Railways are available, and approachable.
