Stud wall question

Post by ali »

I have a stud partition (3"x2" frame/plasterboard) with a doorway that I want to move up a bit.

Obviously I need to cut down the frame at one side and lengthen it at the other.

Should the last stud at the doorway be down to the floor (i.e not on the sole plate but at the side of it), or should it sit on top of the sole plate as the others studs in the wall do?

I have walls built both ways and I'm not sure which is right.....or does it matter?

I'd completely forgotten I'd asked this here.

Thanks for the reply and sorry for not saying so sooner.
