cork upon cork tile - possible?

Hi,

Our bathroom cork tiles look tired. I'm wondering if it would be possible to lay another layer on top of the old ones? Obviously I would expect to do a lot of scoring of the old layer etc but is that possible or do I simply have to remove the old tiles and start from scratch?

Underneath the tiles is hardboard which I laid myself.

Thanks,

Jim

I don't have much experience with Cork floors Jim, but I've had a brief read of Cork installation instructions in relation to sub-floor prep and it would appear ply or concrete type sub-floors are recommended.

Perhaps you could look at overlay Cork tiles, however, many of these are glued to an HDF backing board which the majority aren't considered the best material for high moisture areas.

Personally, I'd start from scratch, especially as the Cork has been installed on hardboard. You won't have the hassle of dealing with adhesive residues..

Hope that helps a little :thumbright:

:welcomeuhm: Jim...

personally I'd not recommend cork tiles for Bathroom...They'll absorb moisture and any spills/bodily fluids :? :?

Have you considered Laminate or wood flooring ??

We have considered laminate floors yes it's just I fund cork times quite easy to lay, quite aesthetically pleasing and quite cheap too. With a load of varnish on top I don't think they have a problem in a wet environment.
