looking to put up an antenna pole for an FM and a DAB antenna (I live in a hilly area so reception is to put it mildly extremely poor at ground level)
Plan is for a 10-12 foot pole bolted to the wall via step out T/K brackets below the guttering, which should give me enough height to clear the surrounding obstructions between me and transmitters im interested in...
However I'm not impressed with the alloy poles (even the seam welded ones being offered online - 25Kg end weight under the sellers testing was enough to cause serious deflection/deformation on a 2mm thick 1.5" diameter pole)
So I'm consider buying a length of 316L stainless tube in 40mm O/D, though not sure if 2mm wall thickness is overkill or not (wind speeds can be seriously high during storms,I live on a hill side and the wind funnels down the street into my house and I'd rather pay more and have it withstand a once in a century hurricane than come crashing down...)
Any opinions? / Info on how much force it would take to cause a 40mm O/D 316L stainless tube with 2mm wall thickness to bend?

That depends entirely on what you're hanging off it. The wind load works against both the pole but more so against the load on it.

If it helps.........
Near where I used to live, they are not allowed to have anything affixed to the house, that includes TV aerial. (way before satellite) so they all used scaffold poles sunk into the ground a few feet. Perhaps a scaffold pole sunk into the ground would be better for you?

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

load:
1 x FM dipole (short 1 up 1 down rod job) / folded FM Dipole
1 x DAB folded dipole or 3/5 element
so not exactly wind sails
using the calcs...a 2 inch O/D pole with a wall size of 2mm (so 1.843" I/D )and a documented strength of 70000 psi for 316L...failure wind speed...110 mph...with antennas that are a foot square each (FM dipole is nowhere near that...being 2 pieces of rod or at most a folded dipole)
survival velocity being just shy of 78mph...
methinks the bracket will break before the pole does....
SE: Thanks but won't work...pole would need to be the height of the house (~20-25 feet, plus another 6-10 to clear surrounding obsctructions (hills, trees etc)...plus my garden is thin top soil on top of rubble, rubble, more rubble and bedrock...
