Malware removal
Can someone give me a link to a free and safe Malware removal tool please?
I have AVG as my main virus thing but someone said that it is possible to have Malware and stuff that AVG misses?
Any guidance and help appreciated

Re: Malware removal
My understanding is AVG is solely anti-virus. You want anti-malware. Try Malwarebytes

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.
If gloom had a voice, it would be me.

Re: Malware removal
Though having said that if your AVG is up to date, your computer is kept up-dated as well as your browser, AVG will stop just about anything.
MBaM is great as a back-up though.

Re: Malware removal
Thanks chaps, I have downloaded Malwarebytes and run it and it found one Pup Optional Toolbar Installer which I have removed. I wondered if the one it found was a sprat to catch a mackerel and encourage me to upgrade to the premium service?
Thanks again

Re: Malware removal
I have the premium edition, but only because I want real time protection and wanted to give something back to the developer for such a good program.
The free one will catch all the same mal-ware

Thanks all.
I uninstalled MWB as it seems to be constantly running and using a lot of resource. Ahi am happy that AVG is doing its job.

Re: Malware removal
MbaM uses nothing until you do a scan ?? certainly the free version anyway...

Re: Malware removal
On task manager it showed it was running in WE when I use Mozzilla as my browser. The Windows Explorer seems to be defective which is why I am not using it now. Perhaps it was an auto scan?

Re: Malware removal
Some mail/spyware does try to change your connection settings in IE, usually by adding a proxy, causing IE to not connect you can check this under Internet options - Connections - Lan settings
If in doubt reset IE, Internet options - Advanced - Reset (remember to set your history settings from 20 days to 4-5 days and internet options - advanced -scroll down to security and tick "do not save encrypted pages to disc")

You did download the official version from https://www.malwarebytes.org/lp/lp4/02/ ... tAodx0oAaA
As opposed to a file sharing site ??

Re: Malware removal
Yes Wino, it was the site that SE linked me to in an earlier post above which looked like the proper site to me?
I checked the settings Flash, all seems in order. I have uninstalled it now and all seems okay.
Thanks all for the advice

Re: Malware removal
I used to use both AVG (free) and Malwarebytes: I had to remove both of them eventually, an updated version of AVG just wasn't right it became a resource hog on my PC and I switched to *Avast*, a few months later I was running Malwarebytes and it just appeared to take over my PC, I can't remember all the ins and outs but it was running a scan at the time and it basically wouldn't respond to anything I asked it to do, it wouldn't pause or stop or anything, I turfed it out and switched to using *SUPERantispyware*.dewaltdisney wrote:Thanks all.

My PC is still working OK so they must be doing something right.
Does anyone still use *Spybot - Search and Destroy*? I used to use it regularly but it never found anything - except other similar programmes which it wanted me to delete.
One day it will all be firewood.
