How to recover data from a SD card for free

I'm only posting this as it might help other people in a similar situation.

Yesterday I had a problem with an SD card and all data on it was deleted, as most people will know the data is often still there if you can recover it using software.

Google pointed me in the direction of some "free software". I ran the free software and it found 8GB of data, but would only let you recover 1Gb for free. If you wanted to recover more than that it was $69

I did really want the data back so I clicked to buy the software, but surprisingly it wanted £69 :wtf: so I did not buy it and instead checked this forum. I then found a post by RichieP from some years ago and he recommended Recuva, which is completely free http://www.pendriveapps.com/recuva-port ... very-tool/

So I downloaded that and recovered some data, although it was not the data that I was looking for it still recovered the same data that the other people were trying to charge me £69 to do.

When I uninstalled the other "free program" (easeus) it popped up saying I could buy the full version for £40

If the lost stuff is photos, try your local camera shop. One of ours here in Bath will sometimes do it for you for free, or at least tell you if the card is recoverable before you waste money trying..

Your data is never deleted until other data is written over it. I use something at work that has got me out of the sh*t a few times. You just need to type in a few dos commands

:dunno: I used "Recuva" when I had a hard drive fail, It would recover alsorts of files though, unless you specified the type of file you were looking for... so if your files were video in MP4 format as an example you would have to specify mp4 files..

It recovered the .MTS files but not the ones that were last deleted.

Some of the files were from months back and some of the ones from the accidental deletion there was no video footage just sound.

At least I never paid the £69 to find that the recoverable files were not the ones I wanted
