Loft insulation and condensation

Hi,

I've had a look up in the roof space because parts of the kitchen and bedroom ceilings are getting condensation when the weather is very cold - ceilings adjacent to the external walls. So I've noticed that there is no loft insulation in these areas.
Does anyone know of an easy, inexpensive method of insulating a roof space. I have some existing insulation that's deteriorating and is made of fibreglass which I don't like using.

I know wool (thermal fleece) makes good insulation and is naturally fire resistant but it's not cheap.

The problem I have is the angle of the roof at the eaves, it's so narrow I am unable to reach the space unless I can slide something into the gaps (still allowing ventilation through soffits).
I was thinking maybe carpet which I could just lay over the joists ?

Are there any better ideas anyone can think of, only it's a job that needs sorting out and I don't want to leave it another year.

You should be able to get free loft insulation if you have little or none. Phone up your energy provider for details.

It's worth investigating,its a government scheme that's been going a good few years now to make people's homes more energy efficient.

maybe something like 50-70mm cellotex or similar leaving a 20-25mm air gap on top
