File upload problem etc.

Hello chaps, hope you`ve all had a good day, dunno if anyone can give me advice on the following?

I have Windows Vista ....Home Premium,I think.
After 16 months,BT decided I needed Google Chrome for BT Sport to work for me,so they installed it and deleted Firefox browser.Still no BT Sport,in spite of uninstalling and re-installing the relevant player.I did get £35 compensation but it was very hard work.As BT Sport is considered free,I suppose I should consider myself lucky to get that dosh, however I argued that my last contract was sold to me using BT Sport as a catch.

BT guarantee one meg but I get up to 2.8.Fibre optic cables have been in the ground nearby for nearly two years, but no connection to cabinet yet,so no infinity, but BT note sent last month, saying it`ll be available soon

Anyway, before I bore anyone who`s still reading this ,rigid,I have a problem(yes matron),with uploading files from my digital voice recorder, since BT faffed around with my PC.
Plug into USB port, and computer makes the usual b`dong noise of recognition, and the recorder screen shows it`s connected, but no page appears on the PC monitor.
McAfee has replaced Microsoft security, that`s BT again....wondering if it`s blocking my attempt to upload files?

Any tips on BT Sport appreciated too.
Thanks

First off, I know nothing about BT, BT Sport, Windows Vista or much else for that matter! :)

Seems that BT sport needs the Silverlight plugin, which looks to me as if it's not longer supported by Chrome or Firefox. Try using Internet Explorer and make sure the Silverlight plugin is installed. You can download it from Microsoft.

The thing of the window not opening automatically seems to be something that happens to me from time to time with Windows. Whatever if you click on the Start button, and then Computer in the right column. (I think Vista is more or less the same. I'm on Win 7) you should open a list of drives attached to the computer. Your recorder should be in there if it's gone "bong" as you say. :)

Personally I wouldn't use McAfee. I use Comodo which is free and works OK for me. There are others listed off the antivirus and firewall thread here. if you do decide to change, make sure you have totally removed McAfee before installing anything else. There appear to be instructions and tools on the mcAfee website.

Hi Chemfree, my advice to you would be to follow the following steps:-
1. unplug your usb connection the the digital voice recorder
2. disable (temporarily) your McAfee antivirus software
3. Try connecting up your USB voice recorder again, see if this makes a difference.

If it does, you will need to add an exception to the antivirus software to allow USB access

If that didn't work, check the following and let us know...

Do you get the following error in vista when you plug your device in? Image

Goto device manager / USB devices... Does anything show up as unknown device?

Most problems with usb devices are that the drivers need re-installing sometimes, so another thing to check could be, if its an Olympus type Dictaphone or something is the support website and download the latest vista drivers for the device.

Good Luck

Many thanks to you both for your time and valuable input.Following the advice,I pressed on Start Windows icon which brought the required link up,got rid of the annoying McAfee window and was able to proceed with uploading files from my voice recorder.Simple when I`m told how :)

I will be attempting to sort out the BT Sport issue later by installing IE as suggested(which BT worker failed to manage last year, and another failed with Google Chrome this year),and will report back.

Thanks again.
