I noticed this coming up next week. While I have a saw board that I use with my circular saw, I reckon this could be a nice bit of kit to have, what do you think? The only thing that does concern me is the track, only 140cm, might be a bit short for some jobs?

Nice find Rorschach!! At that price, just can't go wrong. It obviously won't be anywhere near as good as the top branded alternatives but as a basher that you won't feel gutted about if it clackers, well worth having one in the kit. Think I'll be grabbing one

you need a 1400 for a 4ft board [1220mm] because off the lead in and out

I know I will be down there getting one for that price as for the amount of time I will use it cant be beaten plus it is a new toy to play with

Well that was my thought, I don't do a lot of work on sheet goods and when I do it is not exactly cabinet grade stuff, a saw like this will do me just fine. My main reason for wanting it even though though I have the circ saw and saw board is that this should have much better dust extraction so I can use it in the workshop/house when the weather is bad.

How does the track attach to the wood that is being cut? Presumably it just sits on top of it? Is there no chance of it slipping as you are cutting?

I'd be interested in this to but like Rorschach the short track puts me off. I'm going to email Lidl and enquire if it can be extended.

All of those that I've seen have a rubbery/nonslip insert in the bottom of the track.

The 1400 track is in two pieces (according to the blurb) so joining pieces must exist.

Yes i would think it has nonslip tape on the bottom but if not it would be very easy to add yourself.

I am thinking of just buying two, I looked at the cost of a 2.7m festool track and I could buy 3 saws for the price of the track alone!

I assume each manufacturer makes their tracks solely specific to to their own saws?

there are only 2 that are interchangeable the other 10 or so manufacturers non compatible as far as i know
on the dewalt track it wont move under a cut but belt and braces so other hand like a spider pressing on track
remember they have a spring to stop the machine plunging so when plunged you have more than twice the machines weight pushing down on the track

How tricky is it to do an 8ft cut with only ~4ft of track, anyone tried it? Presumably as long as you stay on your cut line you can just reposition the saw and cut the second half.

yes 3 marks cut to 55% move track
alline until the the saw falls into the end off the cut check the measure from the metal on the track to the edge then check the other end the same
easy and quick to do
if high accuracy is required measure from the metal to the edge off the board after lining up the rubbers the reason for this is in use if the blade gets deflected for any reason it may cut an extra bit out of the rubber making it uneven along its length

I contacted Lidl and they've told me the issue of extendible tracking was raised in their office a few weeks ago. They said hopefully they will be able to source additional tracks you can buy in 6-7 weeks however they couldn't assure me of this.

I'll give it a miss I think as it's a major point for me to cut 8ft lengths.

Thank you for that info. the 1.4 is probably enough for me so I think I'll stick with one saw and then fingers crossed they will release track on it's own, got to be cheaper than buying 2 saws, though I could then leave them set up with 2 different blades.......
