scribing skirting boards

Post by busted thumbs »

lads,
i have 6" ash skirting boards to fit in my living room, but the floor bellies a bit in the middle leaving about a 10 mm gap underneath the skirting board. this gap is only in the middle, so as it is tight against the floor in either corner, if i plane each end of the skirting board to bring the middle tight on the floor, it would mean that the pieces of skirting board which join this would be 10mm higher at the internal corner joint. do i now have to reduce all the other pieces of skirting board to the same height as the corner joint? i have tried to lean on a piece of timber and try to push the middle down to the floor, but the ash is so hard its not moving. any advice would be great!!

if you have any spare, you could cut a piece to fill the gap saving you alot of work.

oh,
make sure you choose the grain in correct direction or it will be noticed.
other alternatives,
pack under the offending boards?
or
failing that it what you already said,

hope it makes sence  <---- becoming my fav icon lol
best of luck ;)

Much the same what Teabag is saying

Have you considered increasing the width of the skirting by 10 or 15mm and then scribe to suite? You would only need to do this to the problem piece or pieces of skirting.
