Windows 10 shutdown shortcut

Ye olde shutdown shortcut still works on windows 10

1. Right click on the desktop
2. New - Shortcut
3. A window will now pop up in the box type the following - shutdown.exe -s -t 00 - press the next button
4. give it a name
5. your done


If you want to change the icon right click on the shortcut you just made - properties the click on change icon - it may pop with a error just click yes - select the icon of your choosing or make your own

Only way to shut mine down at the moment is to press and hold the power button on the tower. Otherwise it justs comes back to life after a minute or so. the same with sleep mode.

Scruff, some simple things to try......

Unplug all external things (USB devices mainly) and try and shut down.

If using wired network, unplug and try to shut down

Some motherboards allow 'wake on events', which is why it's good to rule those out.

Still reckon it's a BIOS setting. What PC/Motherboard do you have - is this the Aria PC?

Do you know what BIOS version you are on? (press Windows key and R to bring up the run box and type msinfo32 and click the .exe version - it's on the first page).

Hmm, F4 BIOS revision was released on the 14/April/2011 and it's up to release U1B (for F10b stable). While they are scant on detail, things like UEFI support are a bit of a giveaway that they are geared up towards W8 (and W10, by extension).

Would be top of the list of things I'd do myself, but I know not everyone is keen. I'd imagine your board has BIOS backup if sh*t hits the fan (but check).

Also, check BIOS settings if you do it and you have RAID in action - don't blame me if it looses your RAID set after!

Have you tried to remove accessories and shut down first? Simple and free.

Ran BiosAgent plus and 0 device drivers are available for this machine. However it points to an Award update for xx $.

Gigabyte are very good with getting updates for bios issues out, Nearly every build I have done in the last 15-20 years has been a gigabyte motherboard

it just come to me on another thread look in control panel (win + x) - power settings and see what the power button is set to do

Yes Tiger it has a shutdown and re-start.

The problem is it doesn't turn the tower off and a few minutes after shut down it comes back to life, even got a shut down button on the keyboard which does the same thing now.

Holding the power button down on the tower turns it off so no big problem more annoying.

I'd imagine the utilities are not supported and not even needed. Do you use them? I've not got a single one of the manufacturer utilities installed on mine (and there are LOADS).

All of the power management is fully functional, the USB charging, etc, etc, etc.

Up to you though, of course.
