Bank account

I've got a bog standard current account (with Lloyds since the TSB split off), I have been able to use it on-line for quite some time now and do so at irregular intervals.

About six weeks ago when I opened the bookmark for the log-in page it froze my browser (Firefox).

I restarted the whole PC and the same thing happened again.

To cut a long story short I've tried everything that I can think of - deleted all the banks cookies - deleted the bookmark and went in from the banks home page - turned off NoScript - updated Firefox - and a few other things besides - nothing works.

As soon as the log-in page opens it takes about two seconds for the whirly thing in the tab header to stop spinning and it's finished loading - then it starts spinning again and that's when it freezes - not the PC, just the browser.

When I look at task manager it shows me that two copies of Firefox are running - but there's only one copy open as far as I'm concerned.

I've downloaded Google Chrome and can access my bank account through that with no problems whatsoever.

Any ideas?

Do you use any security software such as Rapport?

This caused me problems with Chrome a while back and I had to un-install it.

I had something like that. When the banks parted my old Lloyds log in bookmark worked for quite some time and then it went all strange like your situation. I deleted the bookmark and went on to Lloyds homepage via a search and then bookmarked the 'log in' using this route and it has been fine ever since.

Not sure if this will help your issue?

Nothing called Rapport afaik -- Avast AV - AdBlockPlus and Noscript are running all the time - I've tried it with just the AV running and it still freezes.

Yep, same here, worked on the old bookmark for a while, but no longer - I've tried the same route you took via the Lloyds homepage, but no better.

I did ask in the bank yesterday and she was going to re-set stuff on the ccount but I didn't have my User ID number handy. She gave me the telephone number of the Lloyds internet helpline but I couldn't get past the robot on the other end - stupid thing asked me all sorts of guff and then asked for my security number - I haven't got a security number! ::b

i am lloyd firefox adblock plus and fine here
i had trouble with the water company and talk talk but c/cleaner sorts that out ??

:dunno: IMHO Avast (even the paid for version) is 5h1te..

the free version of AVG outperforms it every time...

My neighbour had A paid for version of Avast, and when his puter became unusable I installed Mbam.....

It found and removed summat like 90 viruses/trojans/pups......

I did use AVG for a very long time but about three or four years back an update turned it into a huge resource hog that slowed my PC to worse than a crawl.

Avast has not caused me any problems and I've never yet had a virus or a trojan - I did have a pup once - it was a boxer. :mrgreen:

I use the paid for version of mbam and windows security essentials, windows defender with win 10

Hi AyJay,

rather than update Firefox, you should uninstall it and download a fresh one - it may have got itself corrupted somehow - it happens. When you uninstall, you should get an opportunity to untick (or perhaps it's already unticked, obvs don't tick it) just the bit that deletes your settings (your profile) - the new download will pick your profile up again automatically.

And - did you download any new add-ons in the days before this problem started? If so, it might be worth disabling them to see if they're causing the problem.

I too use paid for mbam, along with Kaspersky Internet security.

No problems here.

Mind you Barclays site doesn't seem to like Chrome very much, but then Barclays IT is absolute carp at the moment.

That's going to take a bit of a leap of faith to uninstall the whole thing, I must have over 500 bookmarks that I really don't want to lose - and it works just fine everywhere else.

I'm starting to think that it's a cookie problem and am gradually working my way through them deleting anything I obviously don't need and anything that could be to do with the bank (I've already deleted the obvious ones).

Also, since downloading Chrome and being able to access the account that way it's now more of a puzzle than a problem.

No new add-ons recently.

That's why the Firefox profile is in a different file from the Firefox set-up, so you can re-install without losing stuff like bookmarks - and if you did decide you wanted to try it, you could always do a belt-and-braces by copying your bookmarks to an html file and saving it in your documents, then if by some mis-chance you lost your profile, you'd still be able to re-import your bookmarks from the html file.

But it sounds like you've got used to using Chrome anyway - -

I wouldn't quite put it like that - I don't like it, but I can use it if I have to, I'm still using Firefox for everything else.

I've made some progress - the cookies that I deleted have somehow transferred themselves to the *exceptions* list - so Lloyds Bank were not being allowed to put cookies on my PC.

I opened their log-in page after discovering the above and the browser didn't freeze - well, not until I actually tried to log-in - nearly there. :scratch:

Sorted, can now access again through Firefox - although once I got past the log-in and then got past the *memorable info* question to to my accounts it hung for a good 30 seconds before actually opening the account.

I don't know why the deleted cookies transferred themselves to the *exceptions* folder but having cleared that folder out it has allowed the bank to set new cookies, presumably different cookies to when it was TSB.
