Hi,

im looking at tiling the inside of the chimney breast instead of the usual render etc..

I will be fitting cement board on to existing brickwork then tiling straight on top of, I have some glazed tiles left over from another job, just wondering if these will be suitable. I have been warned these may crack due to the heat?! Also if they are suitable which adhesive and grout would you recommend for coping with the heat?

If you have followed the required guidelines over spacing between stove and wall(s) then ordinary tiles will be perfectly safe. Personally I would use the powdered adhesive (mix yourself) over ready-mix.

When the tiles were made they were fired to over 1000°C, possibly as high as 1300°C, (higher still for porcelain) I can't see your log burner troubling them.
