Windows 10 re-installed itself..

Post by wine~o »

Hmm.. So yesterday I was trying to delete some old files/pics, tried to send some pics to the recycle bin but kept getting an error message summat like "MS-Dos error, retry/skip/abort"..

Tried restarting, at which point windows added some updates.

Tried deleting pics again..same error message..

Decided to restore to a point about 2 weeks ago, Puter went through the normal palaver, do not switch off etc..

Then came up with a message that restore was unsuccessful, Windows 10 would re-install but keeping all files..

No option to cancel, just went straight into it.

Left it to do that as it was late and I was going to bed.

Anyway, opened up the machine this morning to find that all the programmes (Apps) needed re-installing, Chrome,Firefox,Google earth,cc cleaner, Mbam, AVG, open office to name but a few....

One particular bit of kit was video editing software which came bundled (Free) with the laptop when new. (Cyberlink) To replace that is going to cost £££££££'s :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire:

Worst of all, I was up to about level 220 on candy crush... I've had to re-install that and start again......

I'm now backing up everything (Just in case) but in W10 it doesn't seem to show the progress of the back-up like W7 did ??

Does it just notify you when the back-up is complete ??

Talking to myself now... I have found a way of doing a "Proper"back-up, though it said it was W7

Control Panel\System and Security\Back up and Restore (Windows 7) ??

Why can't W10 make control panel more easily accessible ??

Hi,

Good luck wine~o, I downloaded Win10 twice and it trashed my computer so now I'm back on Win7. The first time was partly my fault; after installation when I tried to enter my password it was rejected; only after re-installing Win7 did I realize Win10 had knocked my number lock off? The second time it just lost the plot so enough is enough for the time being. My external hard drive also expired so now I've bought a new external SSD hard drive for backing up; lets hope this lasts? A lot of my back up CD's no longer open and now with the first external hard drive failure I wonder if there is a safe way of backing up?

Kind regards, Col.

Mrs D has her Candy Crush linked to Facebook. When she swapped her Hudl (exclusive use for games and sh*t) I managed to transfer it using the Facebook link. If you have a user name or you can recall your King number you might be able to get back in. I got an e-mail from King I recall with the sign on stuff.

I would be gutted Wino, I am up to level 262.

You have my sympathy. (no sarcasm, you really do have it, my Other HD would not restore as it should have)
Above are my opinions Below is my signature.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

as an aside
i downloaded a firefox "update " that said its working in tandem with windows 10 to give the best ever "performance "
one off the new features was to give you adverts on firefox tailored to your searches or words to that effect now it could be coincidence  but ad block plus had dissapeared

Another aside with Windows 10,, If you find the Microsoft Edge browser becomes slow and unresponsive (after a few days) Open Internet Explorer, go to Tools and select Internet Options, then select settings, make sure the cached disk space is set to 1024MB. Then select move folder. Move the folder to another location on your computer press OK and close IE. Microsoft edge will then load faster and become more responsive. (don't ask me why their " new" browser has dependencies on Internet Explorer, that's for Microsoft to answer)

Just a thought Wine~o. there isn't a hidden partition on your laptop is there with the original setup is there? Might be able to retrieve your bundled software. Looks to be plenty of "how-tos" online.
Just a thought as I said.
