What size gap between wall tiles?

OK this is my next question! What is the best size to leave between tiles in a shower enclosure area - 2mm or 4mm? We're worried that with 2 mm we will not be able to push enough grout in to make the wall waterproof (or at least water resistant), but I think the 2mm gap looks neater than the 4 mm (we are using white grout with 20 by 25 cm white ceramic tiles), also I'm finding it harder to get a good finish on the 4 mm grouting.

Personal preference really, I prefer a slimmer grout line, so long as you use a reasonable quality grout float you shouldn't have any issues getting the grout in the gaps.

Great, thanks again Wine~o, I will go with the 2mm!

I'd also go with 2mm, 4mm is pretty huge and for floors really.

As far as making it completely waterproof goes, you need to be aware that grout is not completely waterproof. From your previous post it looks like you're going to have Aquapanel in the shower area - which is definitely a good choice - but I'd certainly tank it as well.

Thanks Inky Pete, 2mm it is!

We are hoping to get away without tanking the Aquapanel - we will have a vapour barrier behind the panel which ought to protect the studding if any water does get through.
