Hi there, our laptop of 8-9 yrs old is on the blink and crashes quite regulary, I have every thing i want to keep backed up so just using it for the internet. I have been to PC world and Currys and looked on the internet, it's when I think I have spotted the model that will suit us then you read about something that someone doesn't like so you start searching again! then burn out for a while! It's just for home use in general and images but I have some HD camcorder digital files which our lappy can't cope with and i would like to be able to import them and edit them for the family, I'm sure one of u guys will have suggestions on what I should look at and in a way that doesn't confuse this technofobe!

Thanks in advance

£350 to £500 give or take! a bigger screen would be nice but 17.3 is quite rare with good spec's I think.

Slow in comparison to....? These things are always relative. I did a bit of research and the reviews were generally favourable, For me it seemed a good price for a machine with 8gb of Ram and proper graphics. More than enough for what I needed anyway and very budget friendly.

:dunno: If this "digitalspy" say the suggested laptop is slow, what do they say is not slow?

Can't be sure if this relates to the same spec as above but this is what was said, no mention of anything that was not slow.

I remember this! It's the AMD A8-7050 2.2GHz/3.0GHz mystery CPU without benchmarks or the model no. of the Radeon integrated R5 graphics. Your link went to a 404 error page and here's the working link for anyone who's interested.

If you look at the AMD official literature it says the A8 mobile series are all quad core but the 7050 on this laptop is a dual core. Entering A8-7050 into AMD's laptop processors search function produced no results. The only 7050 CPU AMD make is the A6 Pro-7050B that matches cores and the GHz speeds, but has the R4 Kaveri graphics. If it is the A6 it's very slow: https://cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu...0B+APU&id=2353 and http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Kav....117370.0.html.

Depending on what your uses are going to be is a tablet/iPad not an option?

Sorry, should have checked before posting that comparison but I thought is was a good test page for processor comparisons.
I have read some and it seems if I want to do phote and video editing I need a processor and graphics card that has some horse power so I need to understand what this means and be able judge the products avaiable.

I have had some of the "slowest" computers you can think of do photo editing no problem.
Its video editing that you need a good processor for. That said, I used to do video editing on this pc but now I have a dedicated pc just for video editing.
Couple of things I did figure out. You need a good video editing programme, I use magix video editor.
Don't do anything else / have other widows open while editing, as (in my case) it runs really slow.
