marmox waterproof tape and tile/tray order!

Hi,

Im putting in a new shower and whilst taking the old one out, found the previous occupant had tiled directly onto the plasterboard stud wall. The tiles came off very easily but the plaster was dark in places and i found i could push my finger through, the underlying plasterboard almost non existent. Hopefully the studs will be OK when I get the rest of the tiles/board off.

I have decided to replace the rotting plasterboards with 10mm Marmox boards, I looked at hardie but the price is almost the same for the area I need to cover. I can then fix the boards to the existing studs, and tile directly onto the boards. Im also going to tile the floor so can board that and create a nice dry room with a small amount of extra insulation which is always handy.

However the waterproof jointing tape marmox brand is £40 which is pretty much all the boards are costing. Are there other jointing tapes that I could use, or am I best to stick with the marmox brand?

Also shall I fix boards, wall and floor, then tile then fit the shower tray (its raised). Or can I fix the boards, then the shower tray, then tile down to the edge of the tray? This would gain me some valuable mm in the room!

(I did consider tanking, but by the time re plasert-boarded, plastered, and tanked im not sure thats much cheaper, plus I need to board and tile the floor anyway!)

I wouldn't bother using waterproof tape as your not tanking it.
Me personally would fit tray , board down to it. Silicone seal round it. Tile it.
Then just do the floor
