Joining Makita plunge saw guide rails

Just bought a Makita plunge saw with a couple of 1.4M guide rails, it came with ONE joiner kit, I understand that two are better/ needed?

However, I can't understand why the joiner kit has two metal strips, one with the 4 threaded holes, which is the joiner strip, and another shorter thinner one with just one un threaded hole. No idea what the second strip is for,.....Any ideas please?

How they can justify the price of these strips I don't know, I certainly think I'll source/ modify some strip and thread it rather than shell out for another one, in the mean time I recon it'll be safe enough just to use one joining strip, and clamp the extended rail down at each end with the spacial clamps.

in general you wont need 2 rails i have had 2 dewalt rails with a joiner
used the saw perhaps 500-1000 times used the joiner perhaps 5 times jointed the trackcs but cut full sheets 50+ times
in other words you just reposition the rail/track which is far quicker than joining tracks

Just like Festool and Hilti rails you do need two joiners to stand any chance of getting a repeatable straight long joint and even then you'll sometimes find it difficult especially as the rails get older and th components wear a bit.
