As the title says! What gives best results for a lush thick lawn?
I laid new turf last year and have some patches that are a bit bare and don't grow as well as the rest of the lawn.
I tried the evergreen spray thingy that attaches to the hose and I think it's basically just green dye.
Is there a better feed that'll thicken up the lawn and produce better results?
Any advice or tips would be appreciated!

The jury seems split about the " feed and weed " type of fertiliser. Some swear by them although from experience I've found them to be a bit hit and miss at times.
Something with a high nitrogen content is generally good and I have heard really good reviews about liquid seaweed. This stuff would seem to be a combination of those qualities,

Perhaps you were a little too haphazard with the creosote on the borders?

I'll try that stuff out mate. Grass seed seems to be a bit hit and miss as well. I've patched a few areas with 4 day germination evergreen that's barely grown and the cheapo value stuff from homebase had grown rapidly!

I recently bought that 4-in-1 type stuff that promises to kill moss and weeds, and green up the lawn. It's worked really well TBH. I covered a 50sqm lawn using one container. Having said that, I didn't walk in a straight line like I thought I had and four weeks on, there are a few strips of lawn that are still patchy and yellow.

Since then, I've been reading up on lawnsmith.co.uk and bought some grass seed, lawn fertiliser and ferrous sulphate (for greening up the lawn and for moss killing). Time will tell how it goes but certainly the lawn looks good from just the 4-in-1 stuff.

Are you picking the cuttings up and using a lawn rake.

Turf should grow or go back under warranty.

Any patches could be re-seeded any time now provided it's watered, which being as Retireds blacky has been on holiday in the west country for most of the summer, shouldn't be a problem.

I've since set the mower up 20mm and it's made a huge difference. My prep wasn't the greatest last year and I've obviously had the flymo set far to low and since raising the blade the grass is looking much,much better. Needs cutting more often tho

If you're using a flymo buy a lawn rake and use it regularly.

It's got the grass box that sucks up the clippings on it,doesn't really leave anything to rake up.

I go for walks most nights round a few blocks and down the end are all lawns, some are amazing - was chatting to a guy about his perfect lawn, it is a bit longer than most, looks nearly two inches but fine and emerald green. He uses blood and bone only, no sulphate or poisons, during spring and autumn. Hardly ever has to pull a weed he said.

Yeah it does, thickened up grass does a wonderful jib for your lawn.
