Best soluble weed killer?

Post by steviejoiner74 »

Looking for the best weedkiller that kills stone dead, area won't be used to grow anything and I've run out of my trusty creosote!
I've a spray thingy so looking to get powder, concentrate liquid.
It's for an area between a large shed and a boundary to woodland and I just want to obliterate the growth of anything next to the shed.
Carpentry,I can explain it to you but I cannot understand it for you.

Ammonium sulphamate (root out). It was recommended to me by a gardener a few years ago to kill mares tail and worked a treat.

Best stuff I have ever used is DeadFast, aka Ammonium Glyphosate, Mix with warm to hot water and spray on a dry day

I used the deadfast stuff a few years ago. It was okay but anything bought over the counter from a local hardware store isn't really that strong.

it all depends how its mixed, 3/4 the amount of water than what it says on the pack and warm to hot water

Thanks for the tip, I had a stock of Sodium Chlorate that I bought just before it became almost unobtainable, but it's all gone now and I was wondering what the next best thing was - I think a lot of the success of a weedkiller is to use it in the right conditions - if the pack says to use it after a dry spell, then that's exactly what to do - the Chlorate used to be a lot less effective if you tried it when the weeds were well-watered.

Salt will kill most plants/weeds other than sea plants

The problem with salt is that it isn't long lasting and 3-4 weeks later the weeds will be back.

For my front garden path and kerb areas I use boiling water from the kettle, kills weeds instantly and to the root. It's only good for small areas tho as a kettle full of boiling water doesn't go far.

Never heard of boiling water. Must be something in that Fife water.

Maybe that's why Fifers aren't all there

I have tried with salt once and it was far from satisfying then got something that sounded like deadfast (94% sure)

Hi,

I've never used blanket weedkiller but we used to be plagued by dandelions and other big weeds until I found the tip on YouTube to use white spirit? On a dry day pour a little white spirit into the crown of the weed; it doesn't take much and be amazed as dandelions simply disappear; I told our neighbour Carole of this tip and her garden was full of dandelions; I use dirty white spirit as well to dispose of it. It also works by pouring a little white spirit onto a leaf and letting it run to the crown; Carole spent £980 to have her garden weeded last year and within a month the weeds were laughing at her? At the top of our rear garden we had a huge mile a minute vine climbing the laurels and spreading on the ground; it had become well established with runners now like very thick rope; I put my rigger gloves on and attacked it so now it's more controllable but once I get some time I'll have another go at removing it. I'm thinking of sticking a few runners into a contaner of white spirit to see what happens. Napalm and a flame thrower would be handy?

Kind regards, Col.

The problem now a days as with most things is EU regulations stopped the production of some weed killers. I think creosote was the same. They sell stuff as creosote but I I've been told it's not the same as what it once was.
