F1 - great end-of-season race and kudos to Hamilton for the efforts he made to change the outcome!

I'd 'like' to congratulate Rosberg for his World Championship but, imho, he's one of the least-deserving champions I've ever had to witness.

He's clearly an inferior driver to Hamilton but his seasons shenanigans with forcing Hamilton off the track etc have dirtied his efforts to the point where the respect just isn't due to him any more.

An exciting season finale but a disappointing outcome.

Hopefully next seasons racing see a sea-change in tactics, performance and outcome with all the new regulations in force and perhaps Verstappen will get the results he deserves as a 'great' driver.

Oh I agree entirely and it split support for Schumacher over the years much as Rosberg has done. It seems to be a German trait (win at all costs) and sportsmanship doesn't enter into it.

We see it far too often on 'sport' these days - footballers are particularly good (i.e. bad) examples and even in snooker the gentleman's honesty has been shown to be tested when players fail to admit fouling of the ball when the referee doesn't notice.

It takes the 'skill' out of the sport and, more importantly, the respect the followers have for the players for, without such respect they will see their support base whittle away and it will die a death.

The only way you'll find out who the best driver is when they all drive excactly the same car.
The person in the best car usually wins.

That's quite true - but you can still make driver comparisons 'in-team' as they both have identical cars. Under these circumstances we see Hamilton way ahead of Rosberg (in any head-to-head they've ever had) and, curiously, Rikonnen better than Vettel on-track but not so much head-to-head!

Ricciado generally wins over Verstappen but Verstappen seem the better driver!

In-team rivalry is quite telling but overall you can still see a 'good' driver from a mediocre one. Verstappen in a McLaren would be a sight to see!

Lightly,I can watch the highlights but couldn't sit through a whole race or all the qualifying malarkey.
It's a strange sport in terms of deciding who the best individual is. Nearly all other sports the team or individual who wins the league or championship is the best over that particular seaoson.
Last year folk said Leicester weren't the beast team but clearly they were,they performed better than anyone else and won the most points,which proved they were better than the rest.
I'm not disputing Hamilton isn't the best driver,he probably is but he's not the world champion anymore and if throw him in the slowest car and he'll do nothing.
Schumacher on the other hand was different gravy,he didn't always have the best car and in difficult driving conditions he was head and shoulders above the rest.

Schumacher had a Ferrari for most of the years he 'won' and no-one could touch the Ferrari's in terms of performance at that time. Yes he had skills but he never had 'diplomacy' - his attitude was always "I am who I am so get out of my way".

F1 is as much about the car as the driver - that's the whole point of it. Teams can, within the set rules, tweak their cars to the best of the technology and skills available to them (and, unfortunately, the money....). However you could still drop the likes of Hamilton, Vettel et al into the lower teams cars and they'd go faster than their current drivers - not by much, that's for sure as the cars are the 'limit' but F1 isn't just about speed.

If you saw the Duel in the Desert race (Hamilton versus Rosberg, few years ago) you'd see how car CRAFT made the difference as Hamilton kept Rosberg at bay even with a car having very much poor tyres for the last few laps of the race. It was a time when Hamilton had the opportunity to really show how good he was as a DRIVER and less to do with the car itself.

Like I said,not a big follower but as a kid I still remember watching Nigel Mansell have a blow out and manage to nurse the car off the track but lose out on the title. 1985ish I think and the f1 got a lot of coverage that year due to mansell being in with a shout.
If I remember correctly the Renault He drive was a 1.6 turbo!

He got lucky this year and couldn't face another season racing against the better driver that is Hamilton.

Even the likes of Button, Alonso etc have gone from top to bottom and FOUGHT their way back.

My dad loved F1 and my mum had to sit through it. I must confess, as much as I love cars it just leaves me cold, just cars going around in a circle. I appreciate that there are clearly things that are transparent to me such as the tactics and this is also true of cricket. I just do not see it so I never watch. But I guess that many will not watch and appreciate the Tour de France, which I love, and they would not see the tactics unfold that I see.
