Got a warning page up yesterday on chrome claiming to be from Windows and it basically locked the computer, I did what it told me not to and restarted.
I went to updates and was up to date but it turns out Windows defender hadn't been initialized, turned that on and opted for full scan, 20 hours later it is still not finished.
Running Windows 10 and AVG, going to bin AVG as getting p155ed of with the constant adverts

F3ck me... why is your 'puter running so slow ??????
I had issues with AVG so uninstalled then re-installed the free version about a month ago .. It's been fine since ...only an occasional pop-up advert.. which I can live with.
Has Windholes defender finished yet ?

Yes, took almost 26 hours!
No idea why it took so long but only found 2 items it didn't like.

26 hours ??? FFS.. If I run a full scan with AVG or M-bam it takes about 30 minutes..

Thinking about it, AVG was still installed so it is possible they were fighting against each other & I did opt for the full scan, still 26 hrs is a hoora long time

ok i run avg and superanti spyware on firefox on windows 10
tried defender for the first time on this thread took 90 mins for a full scan tried an hour later took less than 40 mins
so try defender again and if it is far quicker it may just be setteling down or a qherk if it takes hours again suspect something needs looked at

a quick and simple tool to run is Norton Power Eraser (NPE) I keep that on my toolkit usb drive
it picks up 99% of viruses and root kits (as long as you have the latest version of it)

Try running ccleaner first to get rid of any temporary internet files so AVG has less to scan.

Haa, one year too late. Didn’t realize it would be that old as it was on the first/high up the second page.
Ahh well maybe someone else may benefit from it.
