Hello
During the summer months when not using gas to heat the house, does it make sense to use the
Electric immersion heater to heat water
I have an economy 7 meter, so can heat the tank and night time and probably will last the whole day.
Gas KWh is 3.242p
Economy 7 Elec KWh 9.09p
I am assuming that immersion heater is more efficient?
Any thoughts

Re: Hot Water
What are your actual needs?
What system is in place to heat water via gas?
Instant hot water (gas or electric) may be cheaper but that would mean paying for a separate system installed.
But using your own figures then gas is obviously cheaper - storage in a well insulated tank helps but I find the needs for hot water are greater in the evening where even the best tanks won't give you all your needs (dishes, bath etc) and an insulated tank doesn't cut the mustard for that length of time and quantity required.

Don't take it personally......

Re: Hot Water
My hot water comes from a Hot Water tank , heated by a system boliler set on a timer. So heat the water twice a day.
Also , during the winter the bolier is used for central heating as well.
On the Hot Water tank, there is a immersion heater plugged in for a backup incase the gas boler fails.
The day rate is 18p KWh
