Cheap Paintbrushes.

Post by Rorschach »

Was in Poundland at the weekend and I spotted their paintbrushes. Probably been around for ages but I had not seen these in our local store before. I bought a pack of each to try them out as I do use disposable brushes quite a bit.

They had 2 types, a 5 pack and a 3 pack "premium". Both are synthetic bristles, the 5pack are black, the 3pack are white and look a lot like china bristle chip brushes.

The 5 pack feel really cheap and nasty, bristle quality is low and roughly trimmed, plastic handles. For 20pence per brush though I am sure they will be fine for spreading glue or similar things where finish is not important, just using as a spreading and distribution device.

The 3 pack premium have wooden handles that are nicely shaped and comfortable, the bristles are neatly trimmed, densely packed and feel ok actually. Again they are not going to give a nice surface finish though probably a lot better than the other brushes and certainly better than the china bristle chip brushes. These would also be great for spreading glue or other liquids but I think for me they will probably be most suited to applying oil based primers or hammerite type paints where I always prefer a disposable brush. for 33pence each I think they are great value for money.

Hopefully this is helpful to someone who is looking for easily available and cheap disposable brushes.

I use Poundland brushes. Use once throw away. I have to say that the better ones are pretty good and I have had no complaints. I topped up with a supply the other day and also their long reach roller with four mops, plastic sheets and masking tape. The only complaint I had was Tommy Walsh's gurning mug leering up at me from the masking tape pack that which irritated me.

I got two packs for a £1 and use them for cleaning the lathe/mill or resin work that saves messing about with acetone cleaning brushes

Thanks for that. I was in Poundland over the weekend and my daughter actually pointed them out and asked me if I wanted any more brushes but I was hesitant thinking they'd be junk. Like others I try to use cheap or old brushes for anything too awkward to clean such as shellac primers or bitumen coatings.
