Planning and laying floor tiles

I would like some views on the best way to plan out laying porcelain floor tiles as to where to start first tile. Also what's the best method for keeping them aligned so the grout gaps are equal. Many thanks

Generally speaking draw a line from midpoint of one wall to the opposite side same again for the other 2 walls.. where they intersect will be roughly where you want to start planning.

Next get a couple of pieces of wood and mark the tile dimensions on there and see how that works (move the wood back/forth so that you don't end up with silly small cuts at the edges of the room) bit difficult to explain in words

Get some tile spacers (not from toolstation theirs are crap) these are little "X" shaped bits of plastic. use 2 on each side of each tile to get an even gap.

From the sound of it you haven't done much tiling so make sure you get a slow set adhesive to give you time to correct any mistakes.

Thanks Wino, would it be best to remove skirting boards prior to tiling?

Is it your intention to tile the walls?
I ask this question as wall-tiling would make the skirting redundant.
If it is your intention to retain the skirting, it would be preferable to remove and refit the skirting after tiling.

Thanks, I'm not tiling the walls so will remove and refit the skirting.

Also, do you have any recommendations for the slow set adhesive for porcelain tiles ?

Sorry, I have no personal experience of 'Slow-set with porcelain'.
But search on-line. There are plenty of good manufacturers around and you can read up on the speks.
Free delivery in some cases too.

Cheers,

Thanks for replies, one other question is with the tile spacers, I'm going to use 3mm spacers, are these supposed to be installed flat in the corners of the tiles and then when dry are they to be removed?

There is a high point over by the patio doors, is there a solution without having to level the whole floor, this is a new build ?
