Which grass seed do i need
I've been looking in wilkinsons to buy some grass but there is so many to choose from I didn't know what to buy so could someone tell what grass seed will be ok if the soil is full of clay. I also need something that will grow quick as I need to get to the gas meter.
These are just some from wilkinsons.
Tough lawn seed with ryegrass.
Functional lawn seed.
Rapid lawn seed with ryegrass.
Multi purpose lawn seed with ryegrass.
Superior growth lawn seed with ryegrass.
Hardwearing lawn seed with ryegrass.
Then they have all different types of grass seed from Miracle Gro, Evergreen, Westland.

What do you want from your lawn? Social area, tennis, billiards? Each grass has it's uses but you need to know what YOU want to do before deciding.
Don't take it personally......

Rapid or Mulitpurpose should do Wilko own brand,
Break up soil as fine as possible and level use a riddle if necessary to get a fine top surface to sow into. firm with feet. If the drainage is bad then you may need to aerate, add sand and or compost
at some time

Re: Which grass seed do i need
I only want to grass my front garden as everytime I cut the hedge it's a nightmare to rake up the leaves off the soil. I would rather something that doesn't grow to thick and doesn't need cutting to often.kellys_eye wrote:What do you want from your lawn? Social area, tennis, billiards? Re: Which grass seed do i need
So I take it no grass currently grows on your front garden ?
Why is that ? Too shady, soil too compacted, no dranage
I think you'll do best figuring out why you don't have grass before trying to put dwn seed that won't live because the conditions are wrong
If its a real problem area to get grass growth, artifical grass maybe the best option no, not the cheapest but in the long run, best

Re: Which grass seed do i need
We have plenty of weeds but not any grass since I killed it two years ago. When we did have grass it would only need cutting once a year so I don't know if it was due to the soil or the hedge. The man with no aim wrote:So I take it no grass currently grows on your front garden ?

Meanwhile, put a dust sheet (old curtain/anything) down to catch the clippings when you cut the hedge! Just gather it up at the corners & toss all clippings onto the compost heap!
