Hi everyone. Never seen this happen before but I hung some BQ vinyl paintable wallpaper and covered with BQ kitchen and bathroom emulsion only to find after six months the surface is sticky and paint is peeling off.Has anyone got any suggestions? It looks to me as though the paint itself is not compatible but I cannot think why.I have used the same wallpaper elsewhere and covered with Dulux soft sheen with no problems at all/Thanks

Sounds like a problem with the emulsion. Insufficient binder in the mix perhaps?

I'd steer clear of anything with B&Q branding if I were you, and stick to the recognised trade brands.

someone suggested to me to paint an undercoat over it and then a more reliable emulsion, rather than starting all over again

I normally use acrylic primer undercoat over silk before matt.

it appears that vinyl emulsion doesn't react at well with vinyl wallpaper, regardless of what make one uses.Kind of begs the question- why is this not mentioned on the containers?

Depends on the sheen of the vinyl paper to a large extent, as a lot of textured blown vinyls will take emulsion without any problems.

If there is a particularly shiny finish and a low texture, you may run into problems. I'd use an acrylic primer as a base coat in these situations.
