3 Batten Lights, 1 Switch
Hello there.
I was looking through some posts here and it seems like there's some helpful people so I thought I'd ask my own question.
I want to put 3 batten lights up in my garage, all to be powered by one light switch by the door. I'ts been a long time since I studied electrics at college so I wanted to check if my wiring plans were correct.
Here's a diagram I whipped up:
Would it work? Is there a better/more efficient way to wire it up?
Many thanks
Ryan

Re: 3 Batten Lights, 1 Switch
Yes it will work, but a waste of cable.
If you really want 3 batten holders, wire the first one as per your drawing, then loop the 2nd one from the first one, and then loop the third one from the 2nd one.
It may also be that you have "forgotten" more than you think. You have drawn florescent lights and called them battens.
You should also supply them from a 6A MCB

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

@someone-else
Thanks for your reply. I was just going off the names on Screwfix as that's where I bought the gear from. http://www.screwfix.com/c/electrical-li ... cat3640003
Many thanks
Ryan
Edit:
To clarify, is this what you meant?
Edit 2:
On second thoughts, no that doesn't look right.

Re: 3 Batten Lights, 1 Switch
But it is right, although it may be easier to loop in and out the same end of the light.

@someone-else
So those connector blocks for the neutrals are in the right places? I didn't think lights 1 & 2 would work because there's nothing in their neutral terminals.
@big-all
The garage isn't really big enough to worry about that. Besides, how many more questions do you think I'd have if you threw more switches into the mix?
Many thanks

Re: 3 Batten Lights, 1 Switch
I figured you would be using the choc blocs in the lights, guess I figured wrong.
You loop in and out of each lights connections. The only "extra" choc bloc needed is at the switch.

The correct name for a fluorescent is actually "batten holder".someone-else wrote:Yes it will work, but a waste of cable.
