Type 1 Aggregate

Hi,

I recently laid down Astro Turf and to ensure a good level I used Type 1 Aggregate as a base then a to 6mm granite dust.

After using a compactor I felt the type one didn't compact enough due to some large (how to describe) stones. See Pic. Is this expected of Type 1?

Image note that this was before compacting

Problem I got is when I nail the Astro down the nails don't seem to have enough grip and I think this because of the Type 1 not compacted enough due to the "stones".

What does anyone think?

Thanks
Darren

I believe you need long nails if its like artificial lawn -6" nails.

cheers, watched a vid on a company that specialised in Astro, they say 4" nails. Thanks for comment but I did ask is Type 1 supposed to be that stoney?

It's nothing else but stones really.
MOT TYPE 1 - this is a granular material with a maximum permitted top size of 63mm, graded down to dust.

Another name for it is : Road-stone
As this implies it is mainly used in road construction. But also other instances where a quality foundation stone is required.
