fixing granite/marble

Hi
I intend to use 20mm marble or granite to form a plinth for a fire place and want to put the same material on the face to give it some depth anyone recommend an adhesive to use on the vertical part of the plinth.
Hope I have made sense in my question

You don't say what the vertical will attach to (the edge of the plinth or a wall surface)?
Black mastic is the usual easy adhesive.

do you mean a hearth kerb not a plinth?do you have a photo?usuly you use powdered bagged adhesive dont use mastic.
