Removing glass from kitchen cupboard doors?

I'm in the process of stripping the vinyl from all my kitchen cupboard doors and drawers etc and painting them, which is going well, however I have a couple of glass fronted ones. I removed the vinyl from one over the weekend, masked the glass and painted it but I'm not happy with the edge I've got. I had some runs under the masking and a few bits where the edge is not great despite me having run a sharp nife round the edge to stop the paint peeling away when I removed the masking.
As such I'm considering removing the glass completely before doing the next one. It seems to be to just be held in place with a bead of glue, so I'm thinking I can remove that and the glass will come out. Then, once the painting is done I should be able to re glue the glass back in place using my glue gun.
Has anyone done this successfully or can anyone think of any issues that might arise?
