Removing a dark varnish stain from stairs handrail

Post by Sparky70 »

Hi, looking for a good option to remove a varnish stain from the stairs, I think it would be hard work to get in between the balustrades ! Ideally, I would like to have it in an oak colour finish. Thanks in advance :dunno:

If it is a stain varnished over then no real hope. If it is a coloured varnish then you might be able to strip it but it is a hell of a lot of work and it will look patchy. Unless the stairs are made out of oak then you will not get them to look anything like oak stairs using colour. It is a hell of a job just painting them white (which is the best solution) click on my link below and have a read of that thread.
