Rebate under worktop for lighting

Hello all, is it possible for me to cut a rebate onto their underside of a set of worktops forming a U shape in my utility? I've seen them installed in showrooms etc and was wanting to do it that way, otherwise I will have to plant a bit of wood on the carcass and screw the channel to that, making the LED strip visible, when I was trying to keep it hidden, it will also add a bit of height which may look unsightly. Any info would be great. Cheers

If you can’t cut in situ, would a suitable profile work? Assume you’re looking to use led tape?
