Car viewing this weekend

Hi guys,

im going to view a 2009 plate seat leon FR on Saturday. 85k miles on the clock with full service history. Judging by the photos the car is in brilliant condition inside and out.

Is there anything I should look out for? (2L Diesel Engine, 170BHP).

The garage im going to does have good reputation and I was actually put of a similar Leon last week due to the poor reviews of the garage.

The one big problem with reading Honest John is that eventually you won't want to buy anything.

As with all vehicles, they have their individual issues but it's almost impossible to know if such issues are going to raise their head AFTER you've bought it - which is why you need to ensure you have a warranty of some kind to cover potential faults within a 'reasonable' time scale - I'd consider a year/12,000 miles to be 'reasonable'.

Armed with information such as from 'Honest John' you could make your own checks for those areas of particular concern OR discuss with the garage what they'd offer IF such faults do crop up within the first year.

It's a buyers market - you have the definite upper hand. Just don't be afraid to walk away if you have ANY concerns.

Im actually getting put off diesels as I now have a works van so will only be doing 6k/7k miles a year maximum :S

If you can do a tax and mot check (will tell you if its failed or has any advisory's) - for a few quid you can also get a HPI check

Its basically a golf is a Spanish suit - if your over 6 foot get in it, you may find the rake of the front A pillar a issue, also sitting in the drivers seat flip the sun visor down - if you tall it does block a lot of you vision with it - the C pillars are also quite thick

If you do not do the miles do not get a diesel. Even if it means a nearly identical car but with petrol engine has less grunt. I spend a few weeks recently reading about cars as I just bought, and reading about the models I was after all the problems I would find related to diesel engines (and DPFs if they apply to a car that age). Avoid!

58/09 is the euro 5 change over for VAG iirc, Renault/Nissan went to euro 5 in late 2009 - 2015 onwards the DPF system are much improved but need a good long run at least ever month so they do a full regen cycle

Euro 5 diesel = DPF

Engine size isn't everything in modern cars 140bhp from a 1.4 turbo (petrol) is the norm, 155 bhp with a minor remap is possible
