Ford transit 2013 suspension arm back bush unbonding
I made the mistake of getting talked into buying a van on the day I test driven it without thinking it through.
What makes it even more stupid is I had plenty of time to check it's mot history b4 the test drive.
The advisory said:
"nearside front suspension arm back bush starting to unbond"
Considering I'm alittle bit mechicanically minded.
1)built a 3d printer that works
2)work on my own bike when it doesn't require expensive speciality tools
How hard is it to replace the suspension arm completely? It's probably rusted anyway.
Also I was told if you mess with the ball joint, then I need to get an alignment.
Does that mean I need wheel alignment?

Long time since I climbed under cars and wrestled with suspension parts but I would say it's not the sort of job you want to tackle for your first car repair!
You will need the right tools (or the experience to improvise) axle stands Never attempt working under a car with jacks or bricks! You will need at a minimum good socket set, spanners, ball joint breaker, ideally a torque wrench to tighten suspension parts correctly and lots of band aids for your knuckles.
Most suspension is not not difficult if you understand the dynamics of what the springs will do when released and have the correct tools but I would leave it to a garage in this case.
Time you have bought all the tools and bits then had the tracking checked in a garage afterwards it's not worth it, consider too that the other side will be in a similar state soon, cheaper to get that checked /replaced at the same time. .

oh well i have broken more expensive things and learnt nothing.
This time I lost out on my deposit but I learnt salesman are crafty manipulative dickheads so dont trust them.
Doubt i'd be getting my deposit back.

As I understand it any used vehicle purchased by a private individual from a trader is covered by the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which gives you recourse to reject the vehicle if it is not as described or is faulty. You are also covered by the Road Traffic Act 1988, which says that it is an offence for a trader to sell an unroadworthy vehicle. In addition to this a trader should also give three months warranty on major mechanical failures. Get in touch with your local council trading standards and seek advice.

this may be a stupid question but if that bushing was to completely fall apart, what would happen?
Would it not greatly affect steering of the vechicle which could be dangerous given it's a van not a car
I need grounds to defend my case because it's passed it's mot in august but that not to say that bushing isn't alot worse than it was when the mot was done. That why we service our cars but I have a suspsion it has never has one.

whose to say it hasn't been done ? a 30 second glance will tell you if its been done
well the bolt passes through the bushing in a steel tube, the bushing has a steel outer, the rubber does crack out over time
A Mot is just a snapshot in time, its down to the owner to make sure its roadworthy, an advisory is just that, It advises you of a issue
So have you purchased the van or not ?

the "service history" shows no other entry other than the entries listed on the dvla website for mot history.
It's a 2013 ford transit hi roof i think it was a 2.1 litre 125ps tdci engine.

please can you explain how so i don't buy something i regret again.
I haven't paid the full 8300 yet just 250 deposit which iI now want back.

I don't see the problem - stick your head under the van with a torch and look if its been done, if its been bone they may of changed the whole arm = new looking
there will not be anything "online" to say its been done as it was only a advisory, phone up and ask the dealer there should be paperwork for it if it has.
worst ways it £80-150 for the arm ideally you do both sides at the same time - around a hours labour a side - you can negotiate on the price if it hasn't
I take it you checked the vin number and the rest of the history, inc the hpi
communication is key !!!

I still haven't paid in full becaue I want to be fully satisfied this van 8300 77000miles van will last me at least 3-4 yrs.
So I know it's passed it's mot recently so it shud at least road worthy.
I did a hpi check on it, it said it's wasn't stolen or a write off.
I yet to check the documentation matches the vin on the vechicle.

also another point was it was 315.00 to tax for the year. If it was registered as a campervan will this go down?
What else do I need to check?
