Depth of crawl space

I'm shortly having a new central heating system fitted and have been told by the surveyor that I need to do some preparatory work before the installation. The whole of my ground floor has laminate flooring with the skirtings fixed on top. The surveyor suggested that to save taking up the laminate and ripping out the skirtings, it would be easier if they could access the crawl space under the floor. Since the laminate was put down before I moved into the house I have no idea where or even if there is a hatch to access the crawl space. My question is, if I take up some of the laminate with the intention of creating a hatch, is there any way of measuring the depth of the crawl space to ascertain whether it is worth creating a hatch or not.

can you see through any outside vents
is there any gaps around pipes or cables you could feed somthing non metalic through to feel for a surface
inspection cameras need about a 15-20mm hole to go through
mobile phone 50x70mm gap
ask simmilar houses iff they have gaps

Even if you check at 1 point under the floor it does not mean you can actually crawl to all parts of the house from one opening. Is the house floor elevated (much/little) from the surrounding ground?

Usually the best place to get in is the cupboard under the stairs, if you have them that is. You can pull a couple of boards up easily and have a look. if necessary you cam form an access hatch for the future.

Mine is in the pantry, to access under kitchen floor.

2.5ft high at one end and narrows to 11 inches at the other end. Access to other areas is through little gaps in walls.
