Ideal Standard Toilet Cistern Overfill Issue

I have an Ideal Standard push button toilet which is presenting a problem. Bear with me as it’s my first time repairing a toilet!!

When the toilet is flushed, the water keeps filling in the cistern and doesn’t stop, eventually running into the pan constantly.

I’ve cleaned out and even replaced the valve seal on the dual flush cistern valve as I know that’s often a cause of water keeping to run, but it’s made no difference.

I’ve also tried to clean out the float valve unit although to be honest it’s been difficult to get into. I managed to get as far as removing and cleaning out the cap on the filter but couldn’t see how to take the filter itself out.

I’ve adjusted the water pressure too to see if that made a difference but it didn’t.

What seems to happen is the water fills in the cistern, seems like it’s going to stop but then it keeps rising above the float and then overflows. The float arm does lift up with the water but even if I manually pull up the float the water still comes.

Any ideas are appreciated!!

I would say it needs a new float valve or valve seal (whichever is easier) since it should stop filling when you lift the float up, and yours does not stop.

Thanks, a valve seal change hasn’t worked but have stopped short of trying a change of float valve. Will try that next.
