hackers say they have put a trojan on my ipad how can I check, will it get rid of any virus if I clear history and website date? or do I reset back to factory settings?

I don't know much about Mac stuff, but there's a well known scam that uses pop ups to make you believe you have a virus, and to call a phone number to get it removed.

Its a scam, its very difficult to plant a virus on a ipad, go into settings, safari and clear your history and cookies (or cache)
the most common forms of this scam is it will reload every time you open a browser (safari) and it will not let you close it

Have you had an email saying this is your email address and this is your password.
Send us 800 odd USD to a bitcoin address.
I've put a Trojan on your device.
If you have, do a Google search for the bitcoin number and you'll see your not the only one recently.
I've had two emails like that.
I just changed my password to make sure and ignored it. I've already got anti virus stuff installed.
