This hack I have to say is not recommended, It was loads of work! To me it was worth it but it's not something I would say others to copy. But I will say have a go on your own designs, Its fun and very rewarding.
I needed bedside and a chest of draws for a new loft conversion, something different, out of the ordinary. So I visited a few really posh shops, you know the ones where they like to check your bank balance be opening the door.
I came across a really nice bedside table with curves and covered in faux leather. It was expensive, but the even so the draws were still "cheap" feeling.
Inspired I went to IKEA and looked around. A plan hatched and started sketching in my 3D CAD Program. It evolved around the IKEA MÄRSTA Drawers and a 37mm deep 800mm wide oven carcass with the self closing runners.
To get the curves I stuck on bits of wood on and routed them. There is a gap between the carcass and edges which is a design feature. This was achieved using bits of 10mm MDF and packing. Lots of glue, routing and sandpaper later I had the fames done. All that was left was to get some Faux leather and wrap it around the frames.
This was the hard bit, lots of spray contact adhesive and stretching later and it was done. If you look to close you will see creases. If you are with me and get to close I will call you away to distract you so be warned... It's not perfect but I do not think it's possible to get the material to wrap around the edges.
I made 2 bedside tables using the same process.
Here are couple of pic's from the cad and the end product.
