..... to format a USB external drive (1Tb).

I started the process at 11am this morning. It's now half past 10 (evening) and it's STILL formatting....... I Googled 'how long will it take' and estimates come out at 25 HOURS!

Not recommended.....

And, once started, you can't interrupt it! Damn!

How did you format it ? the likes of Seagate and WD have programs for doing it, if not use disc manager

Using Linux but formatting using NTFS for compatibility between systems.

Got up this morning to find the format procedure had finished so I can get back to creating my 'library' (1Tb of books, magazines etc).

USB 2?
USB 3 makes a big difference in speed.
