Single socket into double

Hi,

Looking for help, I am wanting to change a single socket into a double socket and want to put it flush against the wall. I was going to buy a new double backbox and replace the single backbox. The wiring that is currently going to the single backbox, can I put into the double socket or will I need to do anything with the wiring?

I don't see a problem, is it a spur/radial (1 cable) or part of the ring main (2-3 cables) ?

DCOL89, go ahead, but do make sure you turn the mains off first. (No need to worry is it a spur or on a ring)

That is correct since you are only changing from single to double.

Your main issue is going to removing the old single metal back box without damaging existing wiring. Be very careful.

New back box must have grommets fitted.

What about using a single socket to double socket converter ? it fits in a single socket back box but gives you a double socket. i've installed a couple in the MILS Flat because its a council property and didnt want to starting chasing out bigger back box holes in the concrete and brick work.
